Novel PhytoComplex Solutions That Harness the Power of Plants for Animal Production
Fytera is a line of scientifically formulated PhytoComplex feed additives—plant-based solutions developed through rigorous phytotechnology research—within Selko, the feed additive brand of Trouw Nutrition. Fytera is developed in-house to support animal health, performance, and resilience—naturally, using phytogenics and bioactive compounds derived from secondary plant metabolites.
Phytogenics are based on secondary plant metabolites – those that are not directly involved in the plant’s growth or reproduction but help it survive in its environment. These metabolites have co-evolved with the animal kingdom and have the potential to interact with receptors in the animal (e.g., those located on the cells lining the intestinal tract) to elicit a broad range of biological responses.
When used for animal feed, we call these secondary plant metabolites ‘phyto-actives’. For our Fytera products, we carefully select and combine those plants and their phyto-actives that produce the desired response to the target challenge in the target animal. We call this: harnessing nature’s complexity to tackle the complex challenges our farm animals face!
